Anyone else find this strange?

On Fox news tonight, they are covering the most pertinent issue that will affect our lives and our childrens lives. Whether you think it's good, whether you think it's bad or whether you are completely indifferent to government run healthcare...it is a big fucking deal.

On CNN, they are covering Jon and Kate Plus 8. On MSNBC they are covering a war hero. And Michael Jackson.

Doesn't it feel a little bit like 'someone' is gently stroking our heads and whispering, 'Go to sleep little sheep. Nothing is happening...go to sleep.'

I'm not going to get political on my blog but...JUST SAY NO TO PUBLIC HEALTHCARE!

I completely know what you mean. It's getting scary! And it's only been 6 months.

I am a liberal democrat and I say HELL NO TO PUBLIC HEALTH CARE!

I am begining to think I might be a conservative democrat or even *gasp* a liberal republican....oh, god realization...

ANywho I will NEVER sit in a doctors office next to a bum or a person on welfare. I work my ass off and pay good money for my health care coverage but I never want to lose the freedom to always have the best doctor to care for me. Not all doctors are cookie cut and can do the same thing.

We have public healthcare-medicaid and medicare and it does no one any good.

I will step off my soap box.

Health care is such an important issue. REFORM is needed and this is what OBAMA is trying to do. He is NOT trying to take away our current health care choices, we can keep our current health coverage if we so chose to, he is tyring to give the people of America another choice of government health coverage. Medicaid is for the low income people, Medicare is for 65+ population, he is trying to provide coverage for those w/o health coverage that don't fit the above. The insurance companies are making money at the expense of the American people. In this economy, the health insurance companies are reporting 100%+ profits.

In his effort to reform health care, Obama is trying to even the field - trying to make health insurance companies more responsible and responsive to people's health needs, while making the option of government coveage more affordable for Americans.

With the health cost as it is now, a personal health crises within your family or yourself can put you and your family in the same financial situation as the "bum" or "welfare recipient" that you don't want to sit next to in the doctor's office. And this is despite having health coverage because the current health coverages are not all inclusive of individual health needs. It doesn't cover pre-existing health conditions, it can leave us uncovered when we change jobs or we don't have jobs, it doesn't cover certain health issues, etc., etc.

Instead of making assumptions, we need to EDUCATE ourselves. We (and I include myself) need to go beyond the comforts of our homes in middle class suburbia and not make glib judgements or assumptions, but instead need to educate ourselves so that we can make decisions that will benefit not only ourselves, but our neighbors, our community, and our country. We're all in this together. I know I want a better world for my children and it begins with ME!

It's not government that's bad; the culprits are PEOPLE who are elected to govern. Which brings it back to the need to become educated and involved in what is important to us and our basic need to care for ourselves and our families.

Government intervention can be good, it provides us with a safe environment - see the other countries that are at war, with a poor economy - who wants to live in daily fear, hunger, and ignorance. The equation that makes the difference in public policies which are beneficial to american citizens are those that we elect to represent us. Bottom line: Don't cuss the wind - Get educated; get involved; get mad and do something about it.
