Any one else have serious heebie jeebies with the h1n1 virus flying around in the air we breathe??? I am getting so paranoid because I am terrified that my sweet perfect tiny Baby G will get sick and die. I guess I can't put it any more bluntly than that.
It is making me a recluse. Today I went to my bible study and I got there early. I said good morning the woman who collects money from parents for childcare. I was trolling throght the internet on my iPhone (love this thing!) and I told her that I was looking for a place to get the shot because my Dr's office didn't have them. She responded with, "oh I know...just this morning my son woke up with a fever! I think he probably picked it up here yesterday during Sunday school."
In my head I screamed "Aaaaaaaaaaaahhh! Get the fuck out of here Stella!!!!" but I politely said, "Awww, poor thing. I hope he feels better soon. Oh, I left something in my car...be right back." Then I picked up baby Griffin, walked to my truck and drove home. Sigh.
I miss being out in public but I can't even enjoy myself. It's like when I was a single girl in Rocky Point for Spring Break. My friends were having fun and looking for guys to hook up with. I on the other hand looked and the masses of horny college guys and thought "I wonder how many of them are going to spread their STD's tonight." It's kind of a bummer because right before I met Jeff, I decided that I wanted no more serious relationships and that I was entitled to a slutty phase while I was in college. Then a few days later I met Jeff. And he liked it so he put a ring on it ha ha! Long story short...no random hookups for me. Anyway I guess I have been a germaphobe for a long long time.
My big kids are getting their h1n1 shots tomorrow and I will try and get mine asap. I'm waiting for Walgreens to get their shipment in...hopefully this week. Then I will hopefully breastfeed some immunities into the baby!

Please post how shot goes for ya. I am totally freaking out also. My baby is old enough to get the shot once we have it here....but he has to get the second dose of the reg flu first then wait 30 days before the h1n1. Ugh, I am so nervous to take him to the store and don't let anyone touch him. Why do random strangers want to touch my baby...esp. on the hand that will go in his mouth!
Linds- Girl I am soooo with you on people touching his hands. I have 3 more hours until I take all 3 kids to the pediatrician and I am soooo skeeved out because I just know the place is crawling with germs. I will give the big kids a pep talk and tell them to not touch anything. I don't even want them to sit down. And I will hose them down with hand sanitizer when we leave. And I think I will wear Griffin in my Moby wrap...people are less likely to come up and touch him because they would be in my personal space.
Ugh, I'm a wreck just stressing out about this. I'm going to try and get the mist too this week but I am a little worried that I am immunocompromised since I'm still on steroids for my ulcerative colitis. There is a small chance the mist will give me the flu but I can't find the shot anywhere. Decisions...
Hi Stella, total stranger here, first time posting. First, I love your blog, your kids are beautiful. I picked up your blog through someone else's, although I can't remember who's. Anyway, don't freak out about the pig flu, I think the media is making it out to be something it's not. People die every year from the other flu virus that have been going around for years, and no one makes a big fuss about that, in fact they don't even tell us the # of deaths but it's a lot more than from this H1n1. The only reason it's getting attention is because it's a new strain, remember the bird flu, EEE, West Niles Virus? The media was all over that as well, and got everyone panicking.
Please research the H1N1 vaccine, it's such a new vaccine, not much research has been done on it. They mass produced it way too fast for them to know what the long term side effects are, and what is in it? Most vaccines contain some pretty nasty stuff. Increase your Vit. D. & A, they both help boost your immune system, and Vit. D has been shown to fight off the H1N1 virus.
Sorry to give you more things to worry about, I also have UC and I know how stress can trigger flare ups. Have you ever had a food allergy panel done? I did and found out I was severely allergic to eggs, I eliminated them from my diet, noticed a huge change in how I felt, I had a colonoscopy 2 weeks ago and most of my UC has healed. Something to check into. I hope you feel better.
Hey Stel! It's Ash. I agree with the previous post. H1N1 is being sensationalized by the media. The regular flu is just as dangerous...especially to elderly and children or folks with immune disorders. The regular flu kills thousands of people/year, mostly elderly after turns to respiratory problems...but that too is how swine flu would become highly dangerous...effects the lungs and breathing. It's all scary out there. I totally know how you feel, but don't let H1N1 get you in a tail spin anymore than you would the flu virus. I don't know if you already got your H1N1 vaccine yet...but if you didn't, I would seriously think it through again after doing some vaccine research. It's kinda a sloppy vaccine with a ton of questionable chemicals, ingredients, and side effects. As well, you have to get two doses of it. You do what feels right. I too went back and forth, but ended up not getting it and getting the usual flu shot I do every year. Bing Bang Boom...done! And I've been getting the regular one since 2004...right as Will was born because I was terrified by him getting it and it turning to RSV. We had the flu the year before in 2003, and it was the most sick I personally have or had ever been in my entire life, and the most sick Johnathan or any of my kids have or had ever been in their lives. It was truly scary how sick J was...Just as sick or worse as all the symptoms of swine. They're both the flu...just different strains...and the hype is unreal. Both scary, for sure. But the original flu vaccine is tried and tested over many years now...swine vaccine is very questionable, very new, and was hyped beyond and rushed through. Look in to all sides. Sorry to go on and on...I just love you & yours! And will pray baby G and all of you stay Healthy this season!!!
hey Stella, I agree with the other two posters.
Personally, through research, I know it takes TWELVE years to get a vaccine passed. this one passed in a few months. They're giving it to healthy people in europe, and monitoring the side effects.
Personally, I refuse to allow them to use myself or my son as their guinea pigs. I'm going with my regular flu shot, asking if Adrien is old enough to get it (I don't think so, but I'll ask. he's not a year yet and I think he has to be)
it's a dangerous disease yes, but it's actually about as dangerous as the natural flu. you can die from either, and years ago, we had the outbreak of flu (I think in the 80s, but don't quote me. I forget where I read it it was so long ago) and such.. Just take care to keep yourself healthy, clean, and such and you and your babies will be ok:)
I don't understand what the hype is about. I have never gotten a flu shot and never plan on it. I also have never gotten the flu. But, when I'm in public I don't eat food or touch my eyes/mouth/nose without washing my hands first just because of how many people touch EVERYTHING!
I have never gotten a flu shot, and don't think I ever will. The body is an organism that will regulate itself over time. Sometimes, you NEED to get sick, to eliminate all of the toxins in your body.
All this fuss about H1N1 is BS. Flu is flu.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who does not want my child to be a guinea pig for the vaccine. I refuse to give my child this vaccine, it is sloppy and was produced without much testing. People think vaccines are great, but what they put in them can be worse than the disease it's meant to prevent. The CDC wants people to panic so they will rush out to get this vaccine, and if you compare the H1N1 to the other flu viruses that go around every year, you will see that the death toll is much smaller, and the ones who get hit the hardest are the elderly and ones w/weakened immune systems. I think the media and CDC are getting everyone panicked for nothing.
